For children with phosphate diabetes like Ksieniia Karimova, timely medical evaluations can mean the difference between stability and sudden decline.

Ksieniia recently returned from Hadassah Medical Center in Israel, where she underwent a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and consultation with her primary medical team. Thanks to years of continuous care, her overall condition remains stable, despite significant delays in linear growth and bone age.

While her overall stability is a major victory, the latest check-up highlighted critical areas requiring immediate medical intervention:

• a drop in blood phosphorus and Vitamin D levels

• elevated parathyroid hormone markers, causing increased fatigue and pain in her back and legs

• іncreased creatinine levels alongside persistent crystalline sediment in her kidneys

Following these comprehensive diagnostics, her medical team adjusted Ksieniia’s medication dosages, issued fresh prescriptions, and outlined her care plan for the next six months.

Because of timely intervention, Ksieniia can continue living a full, active life—including her greatest passion: adaptive swimming!

This year, Birds for Sofia was proud to cover one of Ksieniia’s two critical treatment courses in Israel, totaling $17,409 through our Unbiased Inheritable Disease Program, which supports children navigating ultra-rare conditions.
