Zolgensma for Daryna
Our USA Resettlement Program is celebrating one more victory! We are happy to announce that Daryna Samoilenko, 1, with SMA Type 1 received Zolgensma at UC Davis Hospital, California as a part of a humanitarian effort to help confirmed «Uniting for Ukraine» parolees.
The Samoilenko family arrived to the US from Kherson in November 2023, with the help of our partner nonprofit Friends of Be an Angel. Birds for Sofia initiated the communication process with UC Davis and covered Daryna’s first hospital visits until she got covered by insurance.
Due to the early diagnosis through neonatal screening, Daryna had been receiving the supporting therapy early, before the first symptoms had been observed. Daryna continued receiving Risdiplam until her testing was complete last month. She got the life-saving Zolgensma on March 15 and is in the process of recovering.
Currently, her physiological development fits the norm and Zolgensma is expected to prevent any possible deviations and symptoms manifestation. Our team is wishing Daryna the easiest recovery and best effects. Go, girl!
Meanwhile, our USA Resettlement Program continues helping kids with rare diseases who are confirmed U4U parolees. 100% of the received funds are spent on supporting family’s adaptational needs during the first 4-6 months of medical treatment.
