Stroller for Artem

Stroller for Artem

Today, we are honored to introduce Artem, a 7-year-old boy from Ukraine living with spinal muscular atrophy type 1 — one of the most severe forms of SMA.

SMA is a rare genetic neuromuscular disease that causes progressive muscle weakness. Children with SMA type 1 often lose the ability to sit, stand, or walk independently, and many rely on specialized equipment to move safely and maintain a comfortable daily life.

Artem is one of those children. Despite the challenges of his diagnosis, he is a bright, joyful little boy who enjoys singing, dancing and soap-making — and so his energy fills every room he enters.

To support his independence and comfort, BfS recently covered the purchase of a new special-needs stroller for Artem. This type of adaptive stroller is essential for children with SMA: it helps maintain proper body positioning, reduces strain on weakened muscles, and makes everyday mobility safer and easier for both the child and the family.

For Artem, this means being able to go outside more comfortably, participate in daily activities, and simply enjoy the world beyond his home.

We are grateful to stand beside Artem and his family as they continue navigating life with SMA. And we are grateful to each of you — because your kindness, trust, and generosity make moments like this possible.

If you would like to support children like Artem and help is cover medical and adaptive equipment, you can do so via our official website.

Thank you for choosing compassion in action
